Nestled in the secluded Languedoc village of Puimisson, outside of any designated appellation, lies Mas Coutelou, guided by the esteemed winemaker Jean-Francois (affectionately known as 'Jeff') Coutelou. Renowned for his expertise in natural winemaking, Jeff has garnered a reputation that attracts aspiring vintners from far and wide, eager to learn from his mastery and unwavering commitment to the vines entrusted to his care.
Inherited from his father, Mas Coutelou received its official organic certification in 1987. Over the years, Jeff made the conscious decision to reduce the vineyard area by replacing certain vineyards with olive groves and other plants, in a deliberate effort to enhance biodiversity.
Jeff's wines, meticulously crafted and matured, are a testament to purity in the realm of natural wines. Devoid of any added sulfur dioxide or other supplements, these wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
Additionally, the imaginative label artwork adorning the bottles reflects the artistic creativity embodied by Jeff himself, further distinguishing his creations within the natural wine world.
